xHermes is a good old Hermes wrapped up with XUL
After starting xHermes you're exposed to its floating window where different services can be used to:

• log into Mail accounts (20 or so different servers)
• send text messages (SMS) to cell phones or pagers (6+ networks)
• check your bank accounts (3 banks).

Floating window still crashes Mozilla, use it only if you really miss watching Talkback window (Bugzilla 160058).
In the mean time I'd recommend using Sidebar version (go to File > Add xHermes to Sidebar in xHermes window) which should be pretty safe.

Install latest release (Hermes 0.3-pre3).

Hermes 0.3-pre3
completed on December 31, 2003.

(pb) - You can add xHermes to your Sidebar (again :)
(pb) - Only Hotmail and some SMS service files have 
       been updated,
(pb) - Two new Polish mail service files were 
       added just to show off how xHermes can be used.
(pb) - some minor changes in js functions,

The bottom line is:

• Most of the mail service files do not work, but they can be easily updated - everything what's needed is in xservices/content/services directory. If you fix a service file please send it to me so it could be included in next release.
• Floating window still crashes Mozilla (Bug 160058). Using it is _not_ recommended.
• xHermes is scoring high in The Ugliest XUL Around contest. Mainly because all styling was removed to help debugging Bug 160058. It may improve some day though :)
• No, it won't work in The Best Browser, bar none ;(
  Yet.

   After you run xHermes you're exposed to its floating window where you can use different services:

   • log in to your mail accounts (20 servers) - Beer.com was added thanks to Dirty Dingus dirtydingus (at) beer.com,
   • send text messages (SMS) to cell phones or pagers (6 networks) - we are again missing one Polish network,
   • or check your bank accounts (3 banks).
   Because of Bug 1699 you'll soon see lovely TalkBack window when using floating window version. Please please be sure to check the source and send us your suggestions ;). Floating window crashes Mozilla a lot, namely after every 5th - 8th use of any service file.
   In the mean time I'd recommend using Sidebar version (menu File > Add xHermes to Sidebar in xHermes window) which doesn't crash Mozilla.

   Hermes 0.3 can be run from your Tool > xHermes menu. Implemented services - you currently can:

   • log in to your mail accounts (19 servers),
   • send text messages (SMS) to cell phones or pagers (7 networks),
   • or check your bank accounts (3 banks).

   Bug 1699 is here ;(.

   
   

3. Hermes 0.1 - beta version 01-pre3

   Hermes has a new beta xpi. Click here to -install-

   After installing you need to re-start Mozilla and then visit chrome://xhermes/content/addpanel.xul

   This is best done by cutting and pasting the above link into your address bar
